Does being present mean being aware of reality without conscious thinking?

1 week ago 28

I came across a TikTok about meditation, basically saying that you shouldn’t “try” to do anything during meditation, you should just be still and aware. A comment on the video said,

“Stop thinking in your conscious mind. Just let your subconscious flow without allowing anything into your conscious mind. It’s not that you stop thinking, it’s that you clear the active workbench that is your conscious mind. You do not need to keep a running internal dialog to maintain activity and function at all times. In fact it can burn you out and give you anxiety.”

I want to know what is yalls opinion on this? I actually like the idea a lot, because I never imagined that I could go through life without conscious thought. But recently, there have been times where I set a timer for 10-30 minutes, and during that time period I don’t do any intentional thinking and I don’t engage with any automatic thoughts. That break from the mind always improves my mood, so I’d be interested in making that my full on way of life, if it’s possible. What do you think?

Been meditating on and off for about 5 years btw.
