Apartments / Commute in Fort Lauderdale

I am considering moving to Miami / Fort Lauderdale area. Work would be in Miramar / Opa Locka. Any advice for the best neighborhoods and apartment complexes in either area to minimize commute? Safe and walkable areas. Thanks!
