Cattails/Vegetation taking over our lake; Broward County says it’s my problem?

Good afternoon, team!

My fiancée and I bought a waterfront house about 8 months ago in Oakland Park, and we’ve really been loving it.

When we moved in, the lake was clear with little to no vegetation (so little that I didn’t even notice any). But over the past 2–3 months, we’ve started having issues with vegetation; especially cattails that are spreading quickly.

Some of our neighbors, who’ve lived here for over 10 years, say they’ve never seen the lake like this before. One of them suggested I contact Broward County to have the lake cleaned.

I reached out to Broward County by phone and email, but the county told me that removing vegetation like cattails and water lilies is the homeowner’s responsibility, not theirs.

What would you do in this situation?

It’s frustrating because, with the amount of taxes we all pay, you’d think the county would handle this.
