Community Focused Local Businesses/Hangs/Organizations

1 week ago 26

Hey everyone. I've been lurking on this page for a while trying to glean this info but I haven't really found anyone talking about this specifically. I'm moving to Ft. Laud for work and to be closer to my fam. I currently live in a smaller mountain town that has a strong sense of community (yes, very hippy dippy, woo woo) and I'm wondering if anyone has any insights on spots in Ft Laud or the surrounding areas that might also have that feeling. I'm mainly looking for these things:

  1. Independently owned gyms where the staff and patrons are friendly, where you don't feel like you're working out in a sea of strangers every time you go. Where people are serious about fitness but also understand that it is a shared space. (I'm a freelance personal trainer part time)

  2. Grocery stores that focus on local goods where you are able to get to know the staff and vice versa.

  3. Chill restaurants with not too much hype. Where the locals go because they know the food is correct and the staff is fun and has license/autonomy to stand up to unruly/demanding/entitled customers.

  4. Bars/venues where there is a solid crowd of good regulars who know how to act and also cut up, where you can potentially see local bands/DJs play, where the staff remembers your name and has the same autonomy as mentioned above.

  5. Farmers markets and makers markets to find locally sourced goods, learn about some of the local farms, meet local artisans, and hear about their initiatives.

  6. Any fun community efforts/organizing events where you can get to know the locals, learn about the workings of the town and figure out the best practices in integrating into what I have to assume is an already rich tapestry of individuals that make Ft Laud so great.

Integration is very important to me as it's always best to not step on anyone's toes or ruffle any feathers when moving somewhere new. I think it's important to learn how the community works and what might be expected of an individual when navigating the businesses in the area, and especially when trying to make new friends!

Thanks in advance for everything and feel free to DM if you don't feel comfortable sharing this outright on reddit, I totally get it! have a great day!
