How can I spruce up my sweet new bass?

My friend just gave me a bass guitar and id like to see what I can do to give it a new lease on life. Its a vantage avenger from the early 80s. All the pots and keys are intact and it all works afaik. Ive played guitar for ages and Im pretty handy and have a bunch of tools. I dont have much money to spend but id like to see what I can do. Obviously new strings ofc.
