I'm reaching out to you today with a project that's been on my heart since I started crocheting last year. It began as a hobby, a way to connect with a kind community of fellow crafters who shared their knowledge, advice, and their own yarn stashes with me, a newbie with no clue. They showed me the power of coming together and sharing what you have, and now I want to pass that kindness on.
I was inspired by a story I heard about a veteran with PTSD who found healing in crocheting. He began making things and secretly leaving them for people in his community, bringing them unexpected joy. That story, combined with what I've been seeing right here in Southwest Florida, has motivated me to do the same. While our community is known for its beautiful weather, we all know that from December to March, the nights get cold. And for the growing number of families, children, and veterans facing housing challenges and economic hardship, those cold nights can be truly difficult. I've seen these good people doing their best to get by, and I know that a small act of kindness can make a world of difference. My goal is to crochet blankets, hats, and small stuffed animals to give to them around the holidays and into the new year. I want to provide a little bit of comfort and warmth, a tangible reminder that they are not forgotten. The challenge is that while I have the time and the passion, I don't have the resources. Yarn is a luxury that's hard to budget for, and while I'm always on the lookout for sales and donations, (Walmart, dollar tree, goodwill, even yard sales) it's not enough to create the number of items I'd love to make. That's why I'm asking for your help. I'm looking for donations of yarn. If you know of a good place to get yarn inexpensively ( Or FREE! ), places that offer samples or are willing to share my effort with others who may be destashing and has yarn that needs a new home, it would be appreciated. Even a few skeins can make a huge difference. Whether it's a yarn you've had in your stash for years or a new skein you'd like to contribute, every little bit helps me create something warm and comforting for someone in need. I'm happy to work with any colors or materials—a patchwork of different yarns would just make the finished pieces even more unique and special. Thank you!
