The complete version of Claude Debussy's orchestral work Nocturnes premiered on October 27, 1901.

When we hear the word "nocturne," we might first think of the lyrical piano pieces by composers like Chopin or Fauré. However, Debussy used the title in a more decorative sense, explaining that it evoked impressions and special effects of light and color for him.

The first two movements, "Nuages" and "Fêtes," had been performed in Paris the previous December. However, the complete work, including the chorus in "Sirènes," was finally presented a year later.

Listening to this performance again after a long time, I was instantly transported back to my college apartment, listening on headphones. I spent almost every night of those days listening to music until dawn. This piece brings back nostalgic memories of those solitary, blissful mornings when a faint light would creep into the monochrome depths of night and gradually take on color.
