Reliable/ Trustworthy Mechanics?

My fiancé is recently having issues with her Volkswagen Beetle and trying not to take it to the dealership because they charge outrageously just to see what’s going on with it. Trying to find someone who can look and see what’s wrong if it’s worth fixing or getting rid of the car.
