Should we move to Florida? Want Parents Advice Please

3 weeks ago 33

I need help. Should I (32F) and my husband (38M) move from Minnesota to Florida with our now 6mo baby?

Context: I was born and raised in Illinois, and moved to Florida from age 22-25 (before meeting my now husband), because my parents moved to the Port St. Lucie area. I planned to settle down there. I lived in West Palm and ended up not loving the partying lifestyle and I just didn’t see myself having a family there, so I moved away.

Fast-forward to now, my husband and I live in Minnesota for his job - we have no close family here, and now that we have a baby, we are realizing how much help it would be to live near my mom. My parents will never leave Florida, so if we want help, we’d have to move there.

We are open to it, but I worry about all the reasons I left Florida in the first place. The party lifestyle that you see in south Florida, the men who never want to grow up. I only experienced FL in my 20s, so I’m sure there are plenty of areas that are family-friendly. One pro about Minnesota is that it’s SO family friendly, I love the seasons, and we have great neighbors. We just aren’t sure if we see ourselves living her longterm either.

Parents of young kids, do you like living in south Florida? Are there good parts to raise a family? Is the year round heat annoying? Are there good schools? We are considering the Stuart area to be closer to my family & the Martin County schools seem decent enough.

All advice is welcome!
