Has anyone had success in getting the city to install speed humps in their neighborhood. I live in a neighborhood where the vast majority of people want speed humps because people use our neighborhood as a cut through between 18th and Federal. We don’t have sidewalks and more people are speeding down our street. Our neighborhood has lots of kids who play outside and run around to other houses, we have a lot of walkers and elderly people who visit in the street. There is going to be a tragedy if speed humps are not installed and I know other neighborhoods have been successful in getting them, so what did they do? We have been asking for speed humps for over two decades!!! Also, the city has done multiple speed and volume studies but we don’t meet the thresholds (which are ridiculously prohibitive), but they don’t take into account the lack of sidewalks. We do have a school in the neighborhood but there really are no accommodations for that - for instance the speed limit within 0.5 miles of the school should be 15 mph, but it’s 25 and all effort to get it changed has been unsuccessful. I’d appreciate any advice from people with experience in getting the city to install speed humps. Thank you!
