Visitor Questions - I tried searching the tourist section already 😬

Hi All -

Hoping you all can help answer a couple questions/give me some ideas. We are getting into town today and leaving Monday. Taking our 13 year old to see Lady Gaga, but staying at Hard Rock casino. Obviously, I know that we could have stayed closer to where the concert is going to be in downtown Miami, but the casino will comp our rooms. Also, they have a great pool, which we were looking forward to using, but the forecast isn’t looking great. I’ve only really ever been to the area on business and that was quite a while ago, and we were always in the Miami/West Palm Beach area. So I have a few questions:

  1. How is the metro rail system in the area? Thought about taking it both ways or maybe just back after concert bc of surge pricing/post-event chaos. We aren’t renting a car, so it is either uber or metro rail
  2. Forecast looks like it is calling for a lot of rain, not just a passing sprinkle. Any cool areas in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood or otherwise that are cool with local shops/restaurants? I read about Las Olas, but a lot of people seemed to mention it being overpriced and a tourist trap for cruisers. I’m thinking local shops/boutiques.
  3. Can anyone recommend their favorite Cuban restaurant that might not be too far from us? Would need to be open for breakfast or lunch. It seems like Havana Harry’s was a popular suggestion, but I guess they are closed for remodeling.
  4. Hopefully I don’t get trolled for this, but we can’t get them at home and I grew up on boiled peanuts when I was a kid on roadtrips to visit family. Are they available in the area? Hoping someone says yes. lol
  5. Any suggestions on stuff to do within a reasonable distance from our hotel that a teenager might like that isn’t the mall. When I looked previously some people mentioned a science museum, but idk if that’s too ‘little kid’ for a 13 year old.

Thanks in advance for your help. We don’t love staying at a casino with a kid bc they can’t do much, and we were really planning to be pool bums, so now I need a backup plan.
