What to do and how to get there?

Hi, we're kind of being "forced" to spend a few days in Fort Lauderdale and want to make the most of it. We came to Florida to help an elderly relative who was in hospital but he's out now and doing really well thank goodness. However we can't change our flights so are a bit stuck.

We'll be staying at a cheap-ish hotel at Fort Lauderdale beach for 3 nights. We'd like to head into downtown and visit the NSU art museum and maybe see a movie at Savor cinema. A couple of questions please:

1. When people ask about getting around the recommendation is always Uber. But what about buses? We can get a 3 day pass for $12 each. Are they really that bad?

2. What other things can we do that would be fun and allow us to keep cool? We like art and culture, and usually we'd enjoy outdoorsy things like kayaking and hiking but not in this heat which we're not used to. We're not big drinkers or into nightlife.
