Outsiders Perspective

I just visited Miami (Brickell, Downtown, Coconut Grove, and Little Havana) and a few things struck me as particularly strange after my visit. The city felt a bit empty given the large scale growth the city appears to have had since I last visited in 2013. It’s hard to explain but the city doesn’t feel like I remember given Miami to me has always been a city on vibes there used to be a strong sense of uniqueness to Miami that was more amorphous and hard to pin down that came from the people who lived in the city at all times. Miami now feels like a city for exclusively the rich most of whole don’t live there making the city feel empty in an odd way.

But I can say for sure it’s not just Miami that feels like this now I lived in Atlanta until around 2016 and visited again this year as well and it has the exact same issues it seems like the cultural capital these great cities were built on are being sucked dry which fcking sucks because what makes these cities so cool is that thing that you can only get from having the actual people be able to live there and make art food and culture for the common people. Anyway just wanted to point out what might be obvious but culture seems to be dying in this great city maybe you feel the same here too. Anyway it’s still a nice city to visit at times but it’s no longer the city that I used to love visiting in the 90s and early 2000s.
